Otatara Fundraising Update

March 26, 2020

Kia ora to all of our wonderful supporters. We hope you are safe and well and have the support you need in these difficult times. As with most charities and small businesses, we are navigating unchartered waters in trying to ensure that the Trust is secure for the future. This includes the purchase agreement for the property in Otatara we recently wrote about, which as it turns out couldn’t have come at a worse time. We have been fortunate enough to be able to negotiate an extension to the settlement date with the current owner so we will be suspending fundraising for the time being, until everyone has a bit more certainty about what is going to happen. We have raised around $540,000 to date, which is once again extraordinary – we really do have the most wonderful supporters. You’re still very welcome to donate through our website if you would like to, but we won’t be proactively seeking donations for the time being. As a country, our focus at the moment should be on protecting our people so please stay at home except for essential trips out or a bit of exercise while we’re at Alert Level 4. Having this time when we must stay away from some of our favourite wild spaces makes us appreciate them even more. That’s why we’re even more committed to ensuring that we continue to create reserves and protect our natural environment for generations to come. Stay safe everyone!
