Taranaki Mahood-Lowe Reserve Safe Forever!

October 25, 2018

We did it! Thanks to the incredible generosity of NFRT supporters, the Taranaki Mahood-Lowe Reserve will now be protected forever. Generations to come will be able to experience its beauty, and the joy of seeing native species such as the whio.

None of this would be possible without the support of nature-loving New Zealanders. To everybody who donated, WE APPLAUD YOU! We had donations from $5 to $250,000 and each and every one was vital. It’s only by coming together that we’ve managed to raise the $500,000 needed to purchase this reserve. It was a huge goal, but once again, our supporters showed how incredibly passionate they are about protecting nature with their donations.

Of course, purchasing the land is just the first step – we will also be putting interpretive signage, a walking track and long-term pest control measures in place to ensure that native species can continue to grow and flourish. The reserve borders Egmont National Park so will provide an extra buffer for all the great work going on there as well – it’s a wonderful example of collaboration for the greater good of protecting our environment.

Once the paperwork has all been completed, we’ll arrange an official opening ceremony, and we would love to see you there!
